Backed by the International Institute of Welding (IIW), the International Welding Inspector – Basic (IWI-B) qualification expands your career as a welding inspector. This qualification is recommended in both AS/NZS ISO 3834 and AS/NZS 1554.1.
This internationally recognised course provides extensive knowledge surrounding welding, inspection theory and application. It includes theoretical components such as mechanical and visual inspection techniques; inspection procedures and acceptance criteria; identification of weld imperfections associated with pre-production; fabrication and post fabrication; and much more.

Course Content
The IWI-B is an online course, which runs over a five-week period. The course includes a stream of pre-recorded material, ten live online lectures, and a suite of other interactive learning resources.
The course content examines a wide range of subject matter areas:
- General introduction to welding inspection
- Mechanical testing on welded joints
- Weld imperfections
- Testing methods
- Quality assurance
A minimum attendance rate of 70% is required across all live lectures and practical classes. You will learn from International Welding Engineers or Technologists with extensive industry experience and theoretical knowledge. These presenters will guide and assist you to reach your full potential.
Diploma and Certification
Once you have successfully completed this course, you will receive an IIW IWI – B diploma.
After three years of experience, you can then apply to become a Weld Australia Certified Welding Inspector.
Course and Exam Costs
All course modules can be paid for individually. However, examinations are not covered and will therefore incur an additional cost.
