WELDING FUME MITIGATION AND CONTROL
WAGGA WAGGA
Regional NSW
Protect your people. Stay compliant. Strengthen your business. Join Weld Australia for our Welding Fume Mitigation & Control event — a practical, hands-on demonstration focused on protecting welders from hazardous fumes generated during fabrication and manufacturing.
These sessions will showcase equipment and systems designed to reduce exposure and improve workplace safety, including:
• On-gun fume extraction systems
• Hooded capture extraction units
• Welding helmets with Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR)
With recent legislative changes reducing the workplace exposure standard for welding fumes from an 8-hour time weighted average (TWA) of 5 mg/m³ to 1 mg/m³, it’s more important than ever to understand your obligations and the practical solutions available.
WHY ATTEND?
✔ See fume control equipment operating in real time
✔ Get hands-on experience with extraction and respiratory protection systems
✔ Understand how to align your workplace with the updated exposure standards
✔ Ask questions directly to industry experts
Hear from Ben Mitchell, Director Strategic Partnerships, Weld Australia and Cornelis Van Niekerk, Advanced Manufacturing Manager, Weld Australia. You will also hear from Jen Charleson Economic Development Manager from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, and Michael Weller, State Inspector, from the Occupational Health and Environment team at SafeWork NSW.
Jen Charleson is the Economic Development Manager for Riverina Murray within Regional Development & Delivery at the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. She will provide a brief overview of the Regional Economic Development team’s work supporting manufacturers to establish, expand and prosper, creating high-value local jobs.
Michael is a State Inspector with SafeWork NSW in the Occupational Health and Environment team. He is a Certified Occupational Hygienist (COH®) and has nearly 40 years of occupational hygiene and safety experience across both private and public sector industries. Earlier in his career, he managed programs aimed at reducing the risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals in industrial environments. Since joining SafeWork NSW in 2017, he has served as the technical lead for crystalline silica dust and is now part of the team focused on eliminating and minimising exposure to welding fumes.
