Louise Petrick Structural and Power Generation Specialist, Senior Welding Engineer

Louise is passionate about welding and metallurgy, having worked in a range of welding, materials and engineering roles over the last ten years.

Louise studied at the University of Pretoria, where she completed a research Masters of Applied Science in Welding. In 2003, she commenced employment at Highveld Steel and Vanadium in Witbank, Mpumalanga, working  on projects in the iron and steel plants, and at Rand Carbide. She joined Mintek in Randburg, in 2004. Whilst here, she worked on corrosion research and consulting, and on platinum group element alloy development for medical applications.

In 2006, Louise joined Eskom’s welding team at their Research and Development site in Rosherville. She worked on several welding research projects, and completed the International Welding Engineer certification through the University of the Witwatersrand and the Southern African Institute of Welding. Her favourite aspect of this was providing full time welding and materials support for five power stations.

In 2014, Louise moved to Australia and joined Synergy in Western Australia, where she was a materials and welding engineer. In this role, she was responsible for the Kwinana, Muja and Collie Power Stations, providing metallurgical failure investigations, welding engineering support (including quality management, procedure qualification and audits complying with AS/ NZS ISO 3834), materials engineering and selection, and destructive testing.

Louise holds a Masters of Applied Science in Metallurgy, Welding, Physical Metallurgy, and Corrosion, a Masters of Engineering in Welding, and is an International Welding Engineer (IWE). Louise also has extensive experience with Australian Standards, chairing ME-001-15, which is responsible for AS/NZS 3992.
