Weld Australia hosts and administers Technology Networks that share resources for engineering innovative solutions to enhance safety, manage risk, reduce cost, and optimise operating efficiency.
Technology Network members are primes and Tier One contractors, major asset owners and state authorities. Technology Networks represent a source of vital technical welding information; optimise welding practices through standard development and tools; and assist members to prepare specifications.

Active Technology Networks
Defence
Defence Technology Network members are Defence Primes and Tier 1 Contractors. It focuses on local content, supply chain capability, standards, training and advanced welding projects. Projects include:
- Welder capability certification to AS/NZS ISO 9606-1 Qualification testing of welders – Fusion welding steels (www.awcr.org.au)
- Certification of subcontractors to AS/NZS ISO 3834 Quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials
- Robotic welding in confined spaces
- Joining of composites to metals
Power Generation
The Power Generation Technology Network members represent 95% of the power stations in Australia. It provides a forum for the exchange of information, collaboration on technical projects and technology transfer. Power Generation Technology Network members are major asset owners and energy providers. Projects include:
- Implementation of a National Pressure Industry Plan
- Guidance on existing equipment life extension
- Innovative IT solutions to increase plant operation reliability
- Quality Assurance and Quality Control compliance
- Health and Safety guidance
Infrastructure
The Infrastructure Technology Network members are key state transport and infrastructure bodies and road authorities. It is critical that existing Australian iconic assets are kept safe and functional. Additionally, there is a need to develop new infrastructures for the increasing mobility needs of the country. Projects include:
- Implementation of a National Standard for Steel structures
- Quality of imported steel and structures
- Quality Assurance and Quality Control compliance
- Fit-for-service and Fit-for-purpose assessment
- Reverse engineering
Membership Period
Weld Australia membership is annual and runs from 1 January to 31 December in a given year. Fees are pro-rated through the year as follows:
Join Date 1 January 2025 to 30 June 2025 | 100% 2024 subscription | Renewal Date 31 December 2025
Join Date 1 July 2025 to 31 December 2025 | 50% 2025 subscription | Renewal Date 31 December 2025
For renewing members, unpaid memberships lapse annually on 28 February.
