WSU FACTORY OF THE FUTURE

UPLIFTING THE AUSTRALIAN WELDING INDUSTRY

WITH ADVANCED MANUFACTURING

Western Sydney University, Bankstown, NSW

Explore the latest innovation in manufacturing technology, including welding automation, robotic cutting, and a look to the future with neuromorphic welding. Gain first-hand insights into how innovation in manufacturing can transform the Australian welding industry in the face of skills shortages, low productivity, cost of local production, and the development of sovereign capability.

The Factory of the Future is an innovation hub located on the ground and first floors of the new Western Sydney University Bankstown City Campus, designed to foster collaboration between the university and local industry in advanced manufacturing, including Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0 technologies. It serves as a platform for innovation, providing access to cutting-edge technology and tailored innovation services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), startups, and larger corporate entities to meet global market demands and integrate into global supply chains.

The Factory of the Future technologies encompass a broad range of advanced tools including additive manufacturing (3D printing) and laser cutting systems; a 5-axis CNC machine; sophisticated 3D scanning for metrology, reverse engineering and digital twinning; autonomous robotics and automation; simulation and visualisation tools and sensors. The Hub is geared to enable concept-to-production demonstration capabilities, including advanced pre- and post processing of materials for small and medium-sized companies.

You will hear from Cornelis Van Niekerk, Advanced Manufacturing Manager, Weld Australia, on the application of welding cobots as well as presentations from the Factory of the Future.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This event will benefit company owners, directors, managers, and engineers. Fabricators, welders, and educators in fabrication and welding will also gain valuable insights into the capabilities and purpose of the technology.

Attendees will have the opportunity to interact hands-on with collaborative robots (cobots) and industrial 3D printers, seeing first hand how they are applied in modern factory manufacturing.
